“Blizard’s Antarctic circumnavigation of 2007-08 was an epic adventure that took us to some amazing places with some great people. So where to next I hear you ask and this is a burning question for us too. We are currently focused on Hannah’s next bid to ski solo and unsupported to the North pole which can be followed at adventurehannah.com but there are several key expeditions that we are considering in Blizzard, so stand by for the announcement of Blizzards next odyssey.
INVITATION FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
We are seeking expressions of interest from capable adventurers for Expedition Kerguelen and the Arctic Odyssey. If either of these expeditions strike a chord with you we would be interested to hear from you with details of your capabilities and experience. These expeditions are in the development phase so we would also be interested in any proposals you may have.
EXPEDITION KERGUELEN
Standing deep in the Southern Ocean this sub Antarctic island is riddled with fjords, capped by a snow dome and covered in craggy peaks sporting glaciers and home to a plethora of wildlife. There are opportunities for climbing, hiking, birdwatching in one of the few lonely wildernesses that remain.
ARCTIC ODYSSEY
This expedition would enter the Arctic at the Bering Strait sailing east to explore the Canadian high Arctic. The Arctic presents unique wildlife, a challenging environment, a rich history and the chance to engage the Inuit culture that has thrived in this region for so long. The plan would be to head toward Greenland and complete a transit of the North West Passage. This is a big call and very dependant on ice conditions amongst other things. We anticipate a three month expedition but this could extend considerably if conditions dictate wintering over. Expressions of interest invited for this expedition.
IN TEVAKE’S WAKE EXPEDITION
Tevake was one of the last great Polynesian navigators and the objective of this expedition is to sail the islands of Micronesia in search of traditional Polynesian navigators and attempt to put the principles of ancient navigation techniques into practice. We will be drawing heavily on the works of David Lewis documented in “We the Navigators”. This is a beautiful part of the world and provides us with an entry into traditional aspects of the culture.
